Kids Toy Storage
It can be a trying task to get your children to cooperate on
keeping the house neat and not having to be finding various toys scattered throughout every room. Providing
creative ways for kids toy storage may help to motivate them to help cooperate. By creating a play space with
various storage options, your children can be taught to place their toys where they will always be able to quickly
and easily find them when they want them.
We have come a long way from having simple toy chests as an
option. The biggest drawback is that whenever a child wants something to play with, inevitably it will be on the
bottom of the box so everything will have to come out so to find it. One plus to the toy chest is that many can be
a nice piece of furniture and used to complete or accent the decor of a room.
If you happen to have a child that has a particular interest in
a career or fantasy it is likely you can find a toy chest to match their enthusiasm. It is not hard to find chests
in the shape or themes of trains, pirates, fire trucks, police or racing cars, fairies, princesses, music, their
favorite story or cartoon characters and of course, sports. There are also choices available that are contained
open bins so the child can see what they want without digging through everything. Another nice option is to engrave
your child's name on the box itself so they have the pride of ownership. Many of these boxes can also become a part
of playtime by having built in seats which can also be used as a table top or be used as
step-ups.
Learning some basic concepts of organizing by younger children
can also be creatively applied with a little planning. For instance, different sizes of cubes or bins could be set
up so the child learns associations such as size, color and shape. You could also teach them certain types of toys
belong together like cars, trucks, or dolls, especially if they have toys that have various parts and pieces to put
together like a train set, doll house or play sets.
It is beneficial for the children to learn and parents to teach
the value of organization. The children will learn that they may spend a lot less time searching for the toys they
want. If they know where they are and begin play time sooner, they may experience less frustration and not lose
interest as quickly. For adults it eliminates the threat of falls and twisted ankles from tripping over or stepping
on the scattered toys throughout the house. Also a lot less energy can be dispersed on getting the little ones to
get things picked up.
Almost anything that can be attached safely to a wall can be
used for kids toy storage. This might include simple things like bins and cubes and old bookshelves with adjustable
shelves. Labels with pictures could be attached for the little ones that do not yet read, to help them get a good
start. Art and activity tables are also a great option for keeping related items stored together if space will
allow for their addition to the room.
